Canty conquers Castleconnor

Moy Valley AC members were active on the roads/trails on Sunday 24th of July supporting two local races in aid of worthy causes.

Fresh from his incredible 57km win in the ‘Last One Running’ event in Westport, Michael Canty powered to victory in the Frank Kelly 5K in Castleconnor in a swift 16 minutes – edging out Eoin O’Callaghan from Dublin who finished 10 seconds adrift. Ballina AC athlete, Cian Mulrooney, was third. Enjoying a tremendous vein of form at the moment, Michael is a tremendous example to club members as he is more than happy to assist with training the talented teenage group of middle distance runners the club is working with at the moment.

One of that talented group of teenage middle distance runners is Bridget Mills and she followed up on her second place finish in the Ballina Salmon Festival 5k with another second place finish in the Frank Kelly 5K today. Other club members in action in Castleconnor today and clearly enjoying their running included: Eamonn O’Boyle, Orla Edmeades, Breeda O’Hora Doyle, Malachy McCarron and Ray Mannion.

Across Killala Bay, the Ronan Clarke 13km trail run was taking place from Killala to the beaches of Ross in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice  and in memory of Killala GAA club member Ronan Clarke. Club member Seán Gallagher was third across the line in the 13km event.
